Show a man how to hunt and he goes hunting. But, if you teach a woman how to hunt, the whole family goes hunting. Encouraging women to take up the sport of hunting often will make a dramatic impact on their children. Youngsters who are brought up hunting will likely pursue the activity for their entire life.
Crossbows

Tip of the WeekExploring the Outdoors with Steve Gilliland

Finding the Right Crossbow
This year, for the first time ever here in Kansas, crossbows may be used by ALL hunters to harvest deer with a firearms permit during the regular and extended firearms season (please review the 2008 Hunting Regulations Summary). I decided to buy one, and had set about doing the necessary research, but soon found myself awash in a sea of “crossbow speak.” Did I want recurve or compound limbs; wood or composite stock; a scope or red dot sights; a cocking devise or not, and the list went on... I needed help!

BUSTED: A Non-Typical Louisiana White Tail Hunt

There I was‚ sitting in my tree stand‚ with my rifle in the gun rack and a paperback book in my hand‚ when I glanced over my right shoulder and saw the biggest buck I’d seen all season staring right up at me – from thirty yards away.

  • Exclusive Path to Wildlife section, designed especially for kids
  • Man’s Best Friend, our monthly department dedicated to four-legged hunters

  • Feature Articles from veteran outdoor writers such as M.D. Johnson, Kenneth L. Kieser, Mike Roux, Tracy Breen, and many more.
  • Your Letters, a section where we publish our readers’ stories and photos

Many hunters say that it’s the experience of being outdoors that they cherish the most, and not necessarily the taking of fish or game that results.  Family Fish & Game celebrates this spirit of connecting with the outdoors and at the same time connecting with your family.

On behalf of the whole staff, thank you for taking time out to read our sample issue,
